The Counseling Solutions Adolescent Outpatient Aftercare Program utilizes two major therapeutic techniques and the Competent Child Psychological Skills Curriculum Model in servicing adolescent clientele,
The first therapeutic technique is the evidenced based Hazeldon “Living in Balance” Program which addresses the initial transition from intensive therapeutic recovery to outpatient living.
The second therapeutic technique extends the program to the family. As developed by Jose Szapocznik and William Kurtines and featured in SAMHSA Best Practices 2006, the program titled Brief Strategic FamilyTherapy (BSFT) uses traditional structural family therapy categories applied in an integrated fashion as follows: joining, diagnosis, and restructuring techniques.
The Competent Child Psychological Skills Curriculum augments the BSFT technique by providing guided mental health skills activity and practice with the family therapy.
Adolescent girls/boys program providing “real world tools” for parents and solutions for kids to balance thinking and emotions in relationships with family, friends and school. Beginning with individual counseling and planning and moving to Saturday morning girls, boys and mixed groups, we focus on relationship solutions with parents and schools.
Our clinicians practice with over 46 years experience with children of special needs. We take referrals from MD, Psychiatry and Pediatrics. We diagnose and work with children, parents and schools in the areas of Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Aspergers, Autism, ADHD and Sensory Integration-Perceptual Motor disabilities. We teach parents and children using modified Applied Behavioral Analysis and Relationship Development along with “Theory of the Mind” interventions, social stories, and scripting through visual-auditory-tactile-kinesthetic modalities in our remediation.
Children-Adolescent Assessments and Evaluations include: Behavioral: Temperament Analysis, Child Behavioral and Psychological Skills Assessments. Educational: Academic profile, scaled assessments in areas of memory, language, expressive communication, attention, and executive function, intelligence quotients, study skills and reading disability.
From a Solution Focused Brief Therapy Model, we will employ both individual and couples work. In practice, we utilize “evidenced based” successful models, notably John Gottman and Harville Hendrix in your psycho-education. This program features “solutions” counseling done in a diagnostic – prescriptive manner.
The learning disabled child can display a variety of behavioral and academic profiles that require clinical analysis and observation. Psychological and academic testing in associative learning, behavioral assessments along with learning modality help parents and teachers understand the disability and provide important support for the child. NOTE: School related private remedial instruction for children with learning delays or diagnosed disabilities are available and often provided along with behavioral health.
Child Behavioral, Psychological and Parenting: Our clinical practice uses information about Temperament, Psychological Skills and Behavioral Patterns. We apply that information as we enable children, their parents and professionals, to be successful in achieving normal growth and development for each child.
We diagnose and provide assistance for mental health disorders. We make referrals to Psychiatry, Physicians and Pediatrics. We provide psychotherapy and counseling interventions. We premise that the future is created and negotiated…YOU are not a slave of the past. We can change our selves, our parenting…..AND our children can learn new skills and our families can learn useful steps to a happier life adjustment.
